Northeast Hearing & Speech (NHS) is a non-profit hearing and speech center that has been serving the communities of southern Maine since 1924. Our dedicated clinicians offer a complete range of services to help people of all ages to hear, speak, and communicate. Audiologists provide comprehensive hearing evaluations for newborns to the elderly, and dispense and service hearing aids and assistive listening devices from the leading hearing aid manufacturers. Speech-Language Pathologists provide speech-language evaluations and therapy for children and adults with speech-language impairments, language/learning disabilities, stuttering and voice disorders, brain injuries, and other neurological disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s Disease, ALS, etc.).
Accreditations and Affiliations
Northeast Hearing & Speech (NHS) is accredited by the National Association of Speech and Hearing Centers. Each of our Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists holds a Ph.D. or Master’s degree, state license, and Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Our Audiologists are also Fellows of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA). NHS Speech-Language Pathologists have been a part of ASHA’s National Outcomes Measurement System (NOMS) study for 12 years and the Early Reading First Grant through the Muskie Institute and the U.S. Department of Education for 6 years. Our Audiologists provide technical support for a national study addressing the treatment of otitis media.
Our staff works closely with Child Development Services (Maine’s early intervention system), as well as numerous preschool and Head Start programs in the greater Portland area.
Northeast Hearing and Speech has been a member agency of the United Way of Greater Portland since 1957.
